Artistic Director’s Message

2011-12 promises to be another exciting season for the Airdrie Community Choir. You’ll find us – as always – singing in and around Airdrie, at the Remembrance Day ceremony, the Artisan’s Market and Christmas “Singfest” at the Bert Church Theatre. This year, we are pleased to welcome pianist Lori Dalcin, who I know will be a wonderful addition to our program. Lori is practically family already, as both her parents sing in the choir. She is a very talented pianist, a passionate music teacher and we look forward to working with her.

I was extremely pleased with the progress we made together last season, culminating in two very successful Spring concerts. I feel that the choir’s sound, intonation and interpretation all improved dramatically, and I am eager to build on these advances. Musical plans this year involve a mix of traditional and contemporary offerings at Christmas, with a great Gospel retake of “O Holy Night” and Handel’s timeless “Hallelujah Chorus.” Our Spring concert, called “Dream Songs,” features many of the choir’s favourite selections including a medley from “Beauty and the Beast,” Beatles songs and works by Beethoven, Morten Lauridsen and Brian Tate. This is a wonderful, social group of people, and we have a lot of fun, so if you are looking to join a choir, we’d be very pleased to hear from you (especially if you sing tenor or bass).

Yours sing-cerely,

Paul Grindlay
